The different types of steroids have different function to play. There are basically three types of steroids that include corticosteroids, estrogens and progestogens, and androgens. The types of steroids are explained below:

Corticosteroids – Corticosteroids are formed in the adrenal cortex that are involved in a range of physiological arrangements such as blood electrolyte levels and behavior, immune and stress response and regulation of inflammation, carbohydrate and protein catabolism.
